ATHENS COP SIMULATION 2021

The second UNFFFC Conference of the Parties simulation (Athens COP Simulation) was held in English, on March 18-19, 2021, under the agenda topic "Carbon neutrality and Just transition in the pandemic and post-pandemic era". Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has held virtually through the Zoom platform.

45 undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates, of Greek and foreign Universities (15 countries) took part in the event, representing the interests of various actors. Specifically, 40 countries were simulated pertaining to the blocks of developed (including EU member states), developing and least developed countries. 5 extra roles of important-to-the-international-climate-negotiations actors were also simulated, namely the EU as an organisation, as well as climate activists and the fossil fuels lobby.

The participants had the chance to attend 3 preparatory lectures on the international and European institutional procedures and diplomacy and negotiation aspects, the agenda topic, as well as simulation procedural issues.

They received the Study Guide and the Rules of Procedure of the simulation. They were also sent extra reading material for their respective policies. More specifically, each group of countries or actors received a profile elaborating on the positions of their roles, according to which participants negotiated during the sessions. You can find the material in the following links:
