Institute of European Integration and Policy

THE INSTITUTE

The Institute of European Integration and Policy is an independent, non-profit research and educational institution. It was founded in 2002 under the auspices of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Its main mission is to cover the teaching and research needs of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration in the fields of European integration and politics, to initiate teaching activites, to cooperate and exchange scientific knowledge with other academic or research centres in Greece and abroad, to organize seminars, lectures and to forge publications. For these purposes the Institute:

  • Conducts research on topics concerning European integration and politics with emphasis on European institutions, political system and governance; European external relations; environmental and climate policies and diplomacy; and other subjects fall under the European studies discipline;
  • Provides information and conducts scientific analysis on the aforementioned subjects;
  • Organises summer school courses on contemporary issues related with European integration and politics;
  • Organises simulations of the EU institutions in order to enhance the familiarization of the students with their function.

Since 2015, Director of the Institute of European Integration and Policy is Professor Emmanuella Doussis.

As of March 2019, the Institute hosts the UNESCO Chair on Climate Diplomacy.

As of September 2019, the Institute hosts the Jean Monnet Module 'European Climate Diplomacy' (2019-2022), a project with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
