“Athens Summer School” is an intensive interdisciplinary six-day course, taught in English, organized by the Institute of European Integration and Policy (IEIP) of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. The first three years of its implementation, it was one of the main activities of the Jean Monnet Module “Moving the EU forward” (2015-2018) of the Department. Since 2019, it is being co-organized by the IEIP and the Europe Direct Information Center, hosted by the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP).
The Summer School provides participants with in-depth knowledge and training on European politics and specific policies, as well as on the key challenges the EU faces in the post-crisis era. The course revolves around five thematic axes (eg, European Integration, Economic Governance, Democracy, Climate Policy, EU External Relations, etc.). Each year, more than 10 lectures are delivered by distinguished and recognized academics and researchers, specializing in the respective issues. One of the lectures is conducted by a prominent European affairs personality, in order to stimulate students and to raise points of concern. Participants receive, at least one month prior to the start of the course, a relevant Handbook, containing the lectures’ syllabi, bibliography for each thematic axis, tutors’ CVs, as well as practical information on life in Athens
