2021 VIRTUAL SIMULATIONS (ATHENS COP SIMULATION & ATHENS EU MODEL)

2021 Virtual Simulations (Athens COP Simulation & Athens EU Model)

The Institute of European Integration and Policy of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece) and the Europe Direct Information Center hosted at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) are pleased to announce the parallel organisation of two simulations, to be held virtually, on 17-19 March 2021.

Athens EU Model 2021” will be a two-day simulation (17-18 March) of the European Commission. The call is open to 30 advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates, from Greek and foreign Universities of various disciplines. Participants will be assigned the roles of the EU Commissioners negotiating “Carbon neutrality and the European Climate Law, under the European Green Deal Framework”. Representatives of international institutions (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the International Labour Organisation) and civil society (environmental and fossil fuels lobbyists) will be simulated.

Athens COP Simulation 2021” is one of the main activities of the Jean Monnet Module “European Climate Diplomacy”, with the support of the EU’s Erasmus+ Programme. It will be a two-day simulation (18-19 March) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP). The call is open to 30 advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates, from Greek and foreign Universities of various disciplines. Participants will be assigned the roles of state parties to the UNFCCC and members of civil society (environmental and fossil fuels lobbyists). They will deliberate on the topic: “Carbon neutrality and just transition in the pandemic and post-pandemic era”.

The working language of the simulations will be English and there will be no participation fee.

The deadline for applications is 31 January 2021.

Successful applicants will be informed by 7 February. Participants will receive their study guides and relevant material shortly after, and they will have the opportunity to attend preparatory lectures on the institutional processes, as well as the agenda topic.
