The Institute of European Integration and Policy of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece) and the Europe Direct hosted at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) successfully organized the “Athens EU Model 2019”.
The Model was a four-day simulation of two EU institutions, the European Commission and the Council of the EU (Foreign Affairs Council). The call was open to 65 advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates, from Greek and foreign Universities of various disciplines. Participants were assigned various roles promoting their policy positions and negotiating on the management of contemporary refugee and migratory flows. The roles were those of EU Commissioners, Ministers of External Affairs and other officials of the EU (European External Action Service and European Commission’s Legal Service), as well as journalists and representatives of other international organizations (African Union, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and NGOs (International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières).
Students coming from Albania, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Russia, Turkey, United Kingdom attended the Athens EU Model 2019!
