The research focuses on climate change policies in the Southeastern European countries, emphasizing on their performance in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, developing renewable energy policies, and adopting adequate institutional framework as a result of the European climate policy and the 20-20-20 goals.
The research examines the policies of the following countries, between 2002 and 2016: Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Romania, Serbia and Turkey.

Under the auspices of the UNESCO Chair on Climate Diplomacy, the members of the Institute's Research Team (E. Doussis, G. Dikaios, L. Avrami, O. Kaminiaris) prepare and submit research proposals on issues related to climate change adaptation and just transition in the Southeast Europe.
